About 2 Meter Sessions
====================
Based in the Netherlands, 2 Meter Sessions is an independent, ongoing (new) music platform with a great legacy. Monthly we film 3 to 4 sessions with promising and breakthrough acts from all over the world.

Many well-known acts have visited the show; from James Taylor, Elliott Smith and David Crosby to Damien Jurado, Ben Howard and Josh Ritter, via Radiohead, Nirvana, Coldplay and Foo Fighters. Archive footage can regularly be seen in (theatrical) documentary movies, like “Mystify: Michael Hutchence” (with footage of our session with INXS, filmed in 1997), “Heaven Adores You” (with footage of our session with Elliott Smith, filmed in 1998) and “All I Can Say” (with footage of our session with Blind Melon, filmed in 1993).

The show started back in 1987 by radio presenter Jan Douwe Kroeske. On his popular national radio show he persuaded New-Zealand band Crowded House to play a couple of songs. The response of the public was so great, that 2 Meter Sessions quickly became a household name. In 1993, the show made a successful transition to national television. From there the show became a national phenomenon, for over 10 years, with filmed sessions of new talent, breakthrough acts and arrived career artists. Almost a million of 2 Meter Sessions cd’s were sold in the Netherlands.

In this his first foray into Soca, he has produced this track alongside London Future as well the Monk Monté.

Also adding their own extraordinary flair to this single are the brothers of Full Blown Entertainment who give explicit details on exactly how world class masqueraders set themselves free and relish each moment of this time of year.

All aspects of the song were created to empower listeners to take charge and squeeze every ounce of merriment out of living, from the live horns courtesy of the Roy Cape All Stars, to the ingenious melodies and memorable lyrics. This certified hit will be available on Machel’s upcoming album, which will hit stores for Carnival 2015; and don’t forget we only have this amazing celebration for a short time this year, so when you hear this one, make sure to let go and party Like Ah Boss!

Innovative and groundbreaking describes the upcoming release of the collaborative
effort between International Soca Superstar, Machel Montano and the critically acclaimed director from the motion picture "God Loves The Fighter", Damian Marcano. After the success of "Fog" and "Float" it was inevitable for them to team back up yet again.

When the two got together they knew they wanted to do something different for "Happiest Man Alive". The video concept begins with Montano crash landing to a place called Planet Mas. At first sight, the area seems quite barren, but upon further inspection he realizes he is not alone. After following a beautiful woman across the desert-like planet¬¬¬¬¬¬ he finds himself in a magical garden where the inhabitants experience eternal euphoria. It is a futuristic play on the creation of Man finding his life partner and sharing Happiness with his Woman.

Here is an extended version of the song "One Drop" that I created from the instrumental part of the official version which I extended by making loops in certain strategic places.
The vocals come from two different demos I changed the order of the text a little to make it coherent in the mix.
I had already worked on this piece with the first video posted on my channel but the sound is of much better quality since I improved my mixing techniques.

Nous avons demandé à 25 artistes de nous/vous offrir une dub plate vidéo d’un morceau qui compte et a compté pour le site et avons décidé de vous raconter pourquoi. L’occasion de revenir sur des souvenirs qui nous ont marqué, les joies, les galères aussi que nous avons traversées, toujours en musique.

Notre Dubplate Story en quelque sorte.

Aujourd'hui, c'est Capleton que l'on met à l'honneur dans Dubplate Story, l'un des artistes jamaïcains majeurs de ces trente dernières années et l’un des trois grands leaders de la génération One Drop / New Roots (aux côtés de Sizzla et d’Anthony B). Auteur de titres devenus de véritables hymnes comme « Jah Jah City » ou « That Day Will Come », inventeur du slogan « More Fire » repris dans le monde entier, il a marqué l’histoire du reggae de son empreinte indélébile, et forcément un peu celle de Reggae.fr aussi.
 
Capleton incarne à lui seul toutes les turpitudes et les paradoxes du monde du reggae des années 1990-20000 et celles de la carrière d’un certain nombre d’artistes jamaïcains incontournables : un talent dingue, une énergie hors du commun et communicative, un message conscient, la promotion de la tolérance et de l’amour, mais également dans le même temps un côté obscur qui s’est exprimé à un moment de leur carrière à travers des lyrics vulgaires, instituant le culte des voyous et des bad men, et, plus grave encore, la haine de l’autre quand il s’agit de parler des homosexuels. Pour ces propos violents et haineux, ces prises de positions et paroles de chansons attaquant les communautés gays Capleton n’a plus pu donner de concerts en Europe pendant un moment et il a dû signer, à la fin des années 2000, à l’initiative du collectif Stop Murder Music, le Reggae Compassionate Act, où il s'engage « à ne pas produire de musique ni à faire de déclarations publiques incitant à la haine contre les homosexuels. Ils refusent également la réédition de leurs chansons homophobes ».

On ne peut pas toutefois réduire Capleton et son immense discographie à cette période sombre de sa carrière, pour laquelle il a payé, même si on ne doit pas l’occulter et qu’elle fait partie désormais de l’histoire de la musique jamaïcaine. Ces années sont derrière lui, et l’artiste vient de terminer, en 2023, une tournée triomphale en Europe et en France. L’auto-proclamé Prophet et fondateur du David House Crew n’a rien perdu de son énergie scénique, ni son public venu en masse applaudir ses performances et saluer la marque qu’il a laissé dans le mouvement reggae. Nous avons donc choisi un de ses titres emblématiques pour illustrer sa place en Jamaïque : That Day will Come.
 
Posé sur le Hard Time Riddim, produit par Gibbo Records, That Day Will Come est une chanson positive pleine d’un espoir qui appelle à des jours meilleurs, ceux où la justice fera payer les coupables de mauvaises actions et de faits répréhensibles. Sorti en 2004, le riddim réunira des artistes qui interprèteront à l’époque des titres devenus depuis des collectors comme Ghetto Girl de Richie Spice, Lonely Girl de Bascom X, Living In Love de I Wayne… Ce riddim symbolise toute une époque, une vibe dans les sound systems, et il suffit d’entendre les forwards obtenus avec ce titre lors de ses concerts pour mesurer l’impact laissé par That Day Will Come.
 
Enregistrée par le Conquering Sound, mixée au Moune studio, cette dubplate est une étape de plus dans l’histoire commune entre Capleton et Reggae.fr. Nous avons en effet rencontré à de maintes reprises Capleton, nous l’avons suivi en tournée et interviewé, il a participé au documentaire Reggae Ambassadors et il nous a offert un des plus beaux acoustiques de l’histoire du site avec cette version revisitée de Explosion….
